Rental rates are pretty standard in Singapore, if you are paying out of your own pocket, it might be useful to have some figures to benchmark on
There are 2 main types of properties in Singapore which you can rent:
1) HDB: These are government owned flats, these have specific ethnic quota which ensures a healthy diversity mix. Note that the living room is counted as a room in these properties. So a 3rm HDB flat usually has 1 living room and 2 bedrooms. 4rm HDB flat has 1 living room and 3 bedrooms. 5rm usually has 1 living room, 1 dining room and 3 bedrooms for some, and 1 living room and 4 bedrooms for others, be sure to ask the marketing agent in advance
Average rates:
- Common room: $550 – $1300
- Master bedroom: $850 – $1800
- 3rm flats: $1700 – $2300
- 4rm flats: $2000 – $3600
- 5rm flats: $2200 – $3800
2) Private properties: These usually come in the form of apartments, condominiums and landed housing. They are gated and some have facilities. Price listed below are for typical units, be prepared to pay higher premiums if you are going for prime properties
Average rates:
- Common room: $1000 – $1600
- Master bedroom: $1400 – $2400
- 1 bedroom/studio: $1800 – $3000
- 2 bedroom: $2000 – $4000
- 3 bedroom: $2800 – $5000
- 4 bedroom: $4000 onwards
- Landed housing: $5000 onwards
